2006 Academic Session Application for Admission into Bar Part I Programme
Sale of Forms
This is to inform all intending applicants for admission into the Bar Part 1 Course for the 2006 Academic Session that application forms will be for sale as from Monday, 27th March 2006.
Commencement Date
This programme will commence on Monday 19th June 2006.
Admission Requirements
The programme is open to Law Graduates of approved overseas Universities or Law Schools whose Law courses have been approved by the Council of Legal Education.
The Programme is also open to students who have obtained at least a “Pass” in the English Bar Final or Solicitor’s Final Examinations, provided the course of studies includes core subjects as stipulated by the Council of Legal Education viz:
1. Law of Contract 2. Law of Tort 3. Constitutional Law 4. Criminal Law 5. Land Law 6. Equity and Trusts 7. Law of Evidence 8. Commercial Law.
Remedial courses are no longer organized for students deficient in the core subjects. All candidates are therefore advised to ensure that the eight core subjects are included in their Law Programmes. Candidates without the eight core subjects will not qualify for admission.
External Law degrees are not recognized for admission to this programme. Law graduands from non-common law countries are also not eligible for admission.
Method of Application
Application forms are
obtainable from the Admission Office of the Nigerian Law
School Campuses at Abuja, Enugu, Kano and Lagos between 8.00 a.m and 4.00
p.m. Monday to Friday on payment of non-refundable fee of
1. Union Bank of Nigeria Plc 2. First Bank of Nigeria Plc 3. UBA Plc 4. GTB Plc 5. Afribank Plc 6. Zenith Bank Plc
and made payable to the Council of Legal Education, Nigeria Law School, Abuja and forwarded to the Accounts Department. Cash, Postal or Money Orders are not acceptable.
Closing Date
Application forms together with reference on applicants must be completed and returned to reach the undermentioned not later than Friday, May 19, 2006. On no account will late submission of application forms be entertained.
End of Course
The course shall end on 21st September, 2006 while successful candidates shall proceed to the Bar Part II Programme in October, 2006.
